About us

StrukturaLink Rhein-Ruhr is a collaboration between researchers from Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bochum and Jülich. Our aim is to jointly make modern methods of structural biology accessible and to better connect the existing technologies and expertise in the region.

Structural biology helps us understand how biological processes work at the molecular level. Using methods such as Cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography or SAXS, we can visualise the three-dimensional structures of proteins, providing a vital foundation for many areas of the life sciences, from basic research to drug development. This is complemented by computer simulations and analyses of protein dynamics, which enable us to investigate the movements and functional changes of biomolecules, a crucial step towards truly understanding their biological function.

Through StrukturaLink, we pool our infrastructure and expertise to provide researchers with the easiest possible access to these technologies. A key component of this are our ‘SuperUsers’: experienced scientists who provide support in the planning, execution and analysis of experiments.

Our aim is to create an open, well-connected research infrastructure for the Rhine-Ruhr region that facilitates collaboration, makes efficient use of resources and enables new scientific ideas.
